What is snow? A little bit of cold, a lot of childhood. The pure presence
Christian Bobin
Starry flakes, the smell of cold, white landscapes, shiny skis and icy roofs: to celebrate the arrival of winter, in this article we want to review the most fun activities to do in the snow with children.
Spending time in the snow is fantastic for both physical and mental health. Firstly, it means spending time outdoors, which improves cholesterol levels, blood pressure, bone density and vitamin D absorption, as well as taking care of the immune system, strengthening muscles and helping joints. Time spent in nature also reduces anxiety, stress levels and ADHD symptoms.
On the other hand, snow is ideal for creative play : its white, sinuous shapes and infinite possibilities open the door to the imagination, encourage the development of disciplines such as drawing or photography and allow you to use your hands in an almost artisanal way.
They also allow them to become aware of climate change, the importance of caring for the environment and learn more about the seasons, meteorological phenomena, the migration and hibernation of animals or the landscapes that surround them.
We won't keep you waiting any longer: here are some sports and games that are ideal for practicing in the snow.
Snowmen (and other magical beings)
Snow can be used to build snowmen, forts, castles, angels, mazes, letters, animals, fantastic creatures and much more. Like sand , it is a material full of endless possibilities.
Snowball fight
A classic game to sweat, run and fight for victory. You can play freely, in teams or individually, drawing a playing field. Whoever gets hit by the snowball loses and is disqualified.
The wonders of wildlife
Gazing at frozen mountains, spotting wildlife, searching for animal tracks or unearthing hidden treasure in the snow is a great way to spark children's fascination with nature and love of winter. You can take a trip to a charming village, stroll around with a thermos of hot chocolate or try your hand at snowmobiling in a designated area.
Snow sports
If you spend a weekend in the snow, you can try skiing or snowboarding - activities that improve endurance, coordination and balance, and that have multiple cardiovascular and respiratory benefits -, snowshoeing, hiking in the mountains or, of course, a Christmas activity that Santa Claus loves: sledding.
Little artists
Spending a morning in the snow with a notepad and a pencil to draw, or with an instant camera, or writing a story inspired by the Three Wise Men, gnomes in winter or a family of squirrels, allows them to find new channels and avenues of expression, ways to express their emotions and, above all, to find inspiration in nature.
To cope with the low temperatures, it is important to have the right clothes and shoes. Good boots, several layers of clothing, a hat, a scarf and gloves. And ready for adventure! You can complete the day by preparing Christmas pastries, kneading a homemade pizza, or watching a Christmas movie - you have classics like Home Alone or Santa Claus Goes to the Grinch, Polar Express, Love Actually or Christmas at the Farm.
